Description: Composer Douglas DaSilva has been working on a video tribute to his father called Composers Voice/My Dad’s Violin documentary for several years. For this video, he requested solo violin pieces from many composers. Each work had to be one minute in length and had to be performed in concert on his father’s violin. A Brief Conversation is one of these pieces. Since it is short, it consists of 2 motifs – chords (used at the beginning and the end) and step-wise motifs. The challenge was to create a piece that had meaning and feeling within such a short time span, and to be stylistically my own.
