Description: Long Division - a tone poem for orchestra in three movements: I. Pulses of Distraction. II. Empty Corners. III. Pulling Apart. Long Division is a symphonic poem arising out of neo-romantic and minimalist influences. The music is chromatic with strong tonal centers, overlaying atmospheric textures and rhythmic pulses through cyclical passages. Stylistically similar material is reworked in the three movements without reference to traditional harmonic development. The emotional intention of the piece progresses through teh movements climaxing in the third movement. The music is both meditatively romantic and edgy.
