Description: Originally commissioned by Janis Brenner and Dancers, "Once You Are Not A Stranger" is the feature title of a 40-minute collaborative media work set to electroacoustic music that looks at the idea of “otherness” in a multicultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious world. The string quartet version of the piece was composed for ETHEL in response to the 2016 presidential elections. The string orchestra version – submitted here – featuring Brooklyn’s Shattered Glass Ensemble and bassist Patrick Derivaz is excerpted from my 2020 release EXTENSION (Navona Recordings). Both compositions imagine a future sanctuary – an "oasis" that uplifts and restores the spirit, where human existence is liberated from tribalism and doctrine. Mastering by Bob Ludwig. Praise for EXTENSION: “her vibrant, dramatic, often darkly bristling compositions are electroacoustic, imbued with irrepressible joie de vivre as well as both a striking clarity and embrace of the absurd…" New York Music Daily
