FIVE COMPOSERS AND A PIANIST featuring pianist Donna Weng Friedman
Tuesday, November 14, 2023, 10:30AM
Steinway Hall, 1133 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10036
REGISTER HERE (Required)
Created with STEINWAY Teacher & Educational Partners in mind, this concert features gorgeous music composed by Beata Moon, Julie Mandel, Kim D. Sherman, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, and Stefania de Kenessey, with poetry recited by Diana Solomon-Glover.
Much of this music was composed for tween/teen piano students, an often-neglected age group especially when it comes to new music.
The performance will be followed by a panel discussion with the composers and pianist, led by Jed Distler, radio host of Between the Keys.
If you are curious about the title Five Composers and a Pianist, here’s a recent article about the BargeMusic concert in Broadway World that explains it: https://www.broadwayworld.com/bwwclassical/article/Donna-Weng-Friedmans-Five-Composers-and-a-Pianist-Concert-Will-Be-Performed-Next-Month-20231025.
Donna Weng Friedman has chosen to perform the following works:
- Beata Moon’s Prelude
- Kim D. Sherman’s Quiet Poems (a set of 3 poems to nature) and Four Moods
- Julie Mandel’s Two selections from Intervals
- Stefania de Kenessey’s Microvids, 19 miniatures for solo piano
- Niloufar Nourbakhsh’s HbeaRt for piano and electronics
This concert is made possible in part through funding from the New York Women Composers organization.
We'd like to thank The Puffin Foundation for their support of this project.
