Description: The pitches in this pieces were decoded from a letter in Q.E.D. by Gertrude Stein. The two violins play the pitches with rules governing the direction of the leaps between pitches. The singer reads the text and uses multi-phonics. The tape is of a reading of Kathy Acker's The Black Tarantula. The Acker reveals the unspoken feelings of the Stein. Performed at 1750 Arch Street on Stein's 100th birthday in 1974 in Berkeley, CA and at The Kitchen in NYC and at The Cabrillo Festival in Aptos, CA where Mitch Miller insisted that the performance be repeated and at Mills College. M.A. thesis: Mills College.
